Kayte Devine and Jess Vogel lead WNEC to third straight NEWLA title
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ? Sophomore midfielder Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) scored five goals and junior attack player Jess Vogel (Tonawanda, NY) added four goals and two assists to pass the 100-point mark in career scoring as Western New England College defeated Worcester State College in the championship game of the New England Women?s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Tournament.
It was the third consecutive NEWLA title for the Golden Bears who receive an automatic invitation to the NCAA Division III Championship that begins Wednesday (May 10) at campus sites. Pairings will be made Sunday night (May 7).
Western New England College (13-5) raced to a 9-0 lead after almost 12 minutes of action and held a commanding 10-1 lead at half-time.
Senior Alyson Nowell (Feeding Hills, MA) contributed two goals and an assist while sophomore midfielder Kaitlin Zangle (Wingdale, NY) also hit the back of the net twice.
Vogel pushed her career total to 105 points in becoming the 10th player in the program?s eight-year history to reach the milestone.
Worcester State received three goals apiece from junior midfielder Ann Clark (Worcester, MA) and junior midfielder Kim Massa (Westford, MA).
The Lancers end their successful season with a 9-5 record.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ? Junior Jess Vogel (Tonawanda, NY) netted four goals and sophomore Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) added two goals and three assists as top-seeded Western New England College rolled to a 21-6 victory over fourth-seeded Castleton State College in a semifinal contest of the New England Women?s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Tournament.
Devine raised her scoring total to 102 points in two seasons in becoming only became the 10th player in the program?s eight-year history to pass the century mark.
Freshman Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) contributed three goals while freshman Michelle Dolan-Hardcastle (Springfield, MA ? South Hadley High School) had two goals and two assists as 12 players compiled points.
Western New England College (12-4) raced to a 14-1 half-time lead in winning its seventh consecutive game. Freshman Katelyn Greene (Westborough, MA) had three goals for the Spartans (5-7) while sophomore Nicole Bouchard (Brentwood, NH) tallied twice.
The Golden Bears will host second-seeded Worcester State (a 14-10 winner over third-seeded Lasell) in the NEWLA championship game next Saturday. The time will be announced later in the week.

Worcester, Mass. - The Worcester State College women's lacrosse team advanced to the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance finals defeating the third seeded Lasers of Lasell College, 14-10, Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field in the semifinals. The Lancers, who are the second seed, will be making their first appearance in the conference championship game.
Lasell jumped out to a, 4-1, lead less than 10 minutes onto the game as sharpshooter Mandi Rapisardi (Scarborough, ME) and freshman Caitlyn Murphy (Katonah, NY) each found the back of the net with a pair of goals. Freshman Ivonne Moore (Worcester, MA) knocked home a free position shot to stem the tide and begin a 4-0 run for the Lancers.
Freshmen Meghan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA), Kim Cosenza (Fitchburg, MA) and junior Ann Clark (Worcester, MA) all netted goals in the run. Over the last 4:44 of the half, the two team traded goals with Rapisardi scoring her third and fourth goals of the game for Lasell, while Worcester State's Kim Massa (Westford, MA) and Clark each scored their second of the game to give Worcester State a, 7-6, halftime advantage.
In the second half, Lasell took an, 8-7, lead on goals by Rapisardi and junior Sarah Williams (Wolfeboro, NH). After Clark knotted the game at, 8-8, Murphy gave Lasell their last lead of the game with 25:30 remaining in the contest. Another 4-0 run by the Lancers was started by sophomore Krystyna Kozakowski (Quinebaug, CT) who scored a pair of goals in less than three minutes. Freshman Kalie Clayton (Fitchburg, MA) then increased the Lancer lead to a pair of goals followed by Massa's third goal of the game to give Worcester State a, 12-9, lead with 9:08 remaining. Rapisardi posted her sixth and final goal of the contest at the 6:42 mark before Clark added two finals goals to send the Lancers to the finals next weekend, 14-10.
Clark finished with 5 goals on the day for Worcester State. Rapisardi, in her final collegiate game had a game-high 6 goals.
Worcester State keeper Lindsey Nunes (W. Springfield, MA) made 8 saves in net. Lasell keeper Noelle O'Leary (Billerica, MA) stopped 12 Lancer shots.
Worcester State will face off against top seeded WNEC next Saturday with face-off slated for 3:30 pm in Springfield. WNEC got by fourth seeded Castleton State, 21-6, this afternoon.

Western New England Earns NEWLA Tournament Top Seed
Two-time defending champion Western New England College secured the top seed in the upcoming New England Women?s Lacrosse Alliance Championship. The Golden Bears (6-0 NEWLA, 10-4 overall) will host fourth seed Castleton State (3-3 NEWLA, 5-6 overall) in a semifinal game on Saturday, April 29th at 4:00 p.m. Worcester State (5-1 NEWLA, 8-3 overall) will host Lasell (4-2 NEWLA, 6-6 overall) in the other semifinal at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
The top four teams qualify for the NEWLA Championship. Semifinal games will be played on Saturday, April 29 at the higher seed. Semifinal winners will meet Saturday, May 6 at the highest remaining seed. Game times are subject to change.
